Young Chef of the Year
Cooking competition
Finding the West Midlands' next young culinary star
Maple from Canada launched a partnership with University College Birmingham (UCB) in 2018, challenging aspiring young cooks from across the West Midlands to develop a maple-inspired menu and become the next Young Chef of the Year.
The 14 to 16-year-olds were tasked with developing dishes on a budget and impressing a panel of judges including Maple from Canada’s UK Chef Ambassador David Colcombe and Michelin-starred Birmingham chef Glynn Purnell.
With the aim of inspiring a new generation of chefs, the winners received interactive, in-school cooking demonstrations from Chef Colcombe, work experience in Purnell’s kitchen and money towards new cookery equipment for their schools.
